What:
While we would have loved to volunteer at the Chimpanzee Conservation Center in Guinea, they only accept 6 month volunteers out in the bush which isn’t feasible for us. So instead we donated some $$ to their cause.
Why:
Because of the outbreak of Ebola in the West African Region, many volunteers, donors and expatriates have left the region. This has seriously impacted the efforts of Projet Primates to support, repair, improve and expand their efforts at the Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC) in Guinea. Guinea is one of the last strongholds for chimpanzees and Projet Primates operates in one of the few remaining protected areas. They rescue & release chimps, when feasible back into the wild, and have education campaigns throughout the region to prevent illegal trafficking and to discourage chimpanzees hunted for bushmeat, which is common in other neighboring countries.
