What:
For two weeks, I will drink nothing but water (no soda, no coffee, no tea, no sports drinks). At the end of the two weeks, any money that I would have spent on other beverages (estimate $23) will be donated to The Water Project (http://thewaterproject.org/). The money will be used to fund a new water project in Burkina Faso, Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Rwanda or Uganda.
Why:
From the Water Project Website: Every day in rural communities and poor urban centers throughout sub-Saharan Africa, hundreds of millions of people suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water.
Women and girls especially bear the burden of walking miles at a time to gather water from streams and ponds - full of water-borne disease that is making them and their families sick.
Access to clean water can improve education, health, hunger, and poverty.
------
Personally, I feel that we take access to clean water for granted. I want to remind myself and my daughter to be grateful for our easy access to resources and mindful of the fact that many people in the world don't share our luck. Additionally, this might help me kick my unhealthy sugary drink habit =)
